TackSHS progress & findings presented at the ENSP-SRP 2019 Conference

The 4th ENSP – SRP International Conference on Tobacco Control 2019 was held from 27 to 29 of March 2019 in Bucharest, Romania.  This year’s main theme was “Tomorrow’s sustainable development starts now – time toaccelerate tobacco control!”. The message was strongly supported by H.E. Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis who opened the Conference along with the Head of Secretariat of the WHO FCTC Vera Luiza de Costa e Silva.

The conference activities were completed successfully. A great number of speakers, delegates and volunteers contributed to the success of the event. The conference hosted almost 400 European and International attendees from 50 countries while the program included in total 44 sessions. 150 abstracts were accepted as oral and poster presentations and were published as a special issue in the official ENSP Journal – Tobacco Prevention and Cessation.

Within the activities of the 4th ENSP – SRP International Conference, the TackSHS symposium took place on Friday, 29 March, this session, chaired by Prof. Esteve Fernandez gathered around 80 people. The progress and latest findings were presented to the conference participants via six oral presentations.

In particular, the following presentations were delivered by the TackSHS Partners:

  • Introduction: project objectives and progress (Esteve Fernandez, Olena Tigova)
  • Second-hand smoke exposure in playgrounds in 11 European Countries (Elisabet-Mae Henderson)
  • Second-hand tobacco smoke exposure and passive exposure to electronic cigarette aerosol in 12 European countries: the TackSHS Project survey (Alessandra Lugo)
  • A novel air quality feedback intervention trial using mHealth techniques across four European countries: the TackSHS Project Measuring for Change Study (Marcela Fu)
  • Passive exposure to e-cigarette emissions: sensory irritation, timing and association with VOCs (Stephanie Teloniatis)
  • Tobacco challenge and implementation research in EC funded projects (Amalia-Irina Vlad)

Moreover, the abstracts submitted by the TackSHS partners can also be read in the Special Issue of the ENSP Tobacco Prevention&Cessation Journal.
