Passive exposure to e-cigarette emissions: Immediate respiratory effects

The present work Passive exposure to e-cigarette emissions: Immediate respiratory effects examined the respiratory effects of passive exposure to electronic-cigarette (e-cigarette) emissions among 40 young, healthy nonsmokers using a cross-over experimental study design. Second-hand aerosols (SHA) were produced by human smokers using two resistance settings, 0.5 Ohm and 1.5 Ohms. Resonant frequency increased in the 1.5 Ohm setting while fractional exhaled nitric oxide decreased when using the 0.5 Ohm setting. In conclusion, a 30-minute passive exposure to e-cigarette emissions revealed immediate alterations in respiratory mechanics and exhaled biomarkers.
